The Curse of Racism and Discrimination

Although we, the people of Earth, have given up slavery and discrimination, it will always haunt us forever. The villains that taken these matters on their own hands have left a permanent scar on earth. These villains are Hitler and slave masters. However where there are villains there are also heroes. These heroes are Martin Luther King Jr. and the secret White Rose.

During the times of Hitler, Nazis and Hitler killed Jews. Their reign seemed unstoppable. Think about it, thousands died during the massacre and their power in a corrupted leader. However a hopeful group of people, the white rose, saw the the true side, the evil side, of Hitler. The White Rose wrote “letters” secretly to tell people the truth about Hitler. Even thought they did they were later on caught and beheaded in 1943.

I believe that racism started when white men forced blacks to become their slaves. Soon people saw this as a horrible thing to do to these people and the government declared to stop slavery. Even though we were rid of slavery , the  people still were against African Americans. They show this by having different bathrooms, different seats on the bus, and a different attitude towards each other. Then out of the shadows comes, Martin Luther King Jr.. This great philosopher abolished all serious racism and created a bridge between the gap between the Americans and the African Americans. Sadly he was assassinated by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968.

As you can tell racism and discrimination is an unneeded part of our lives. And I think that these heroes showed us that it is a much better world without it.

Global Crises

There are many crisis in the United States. Some such as Hurricane Katrina, the horrible economy, and 9/11. However we have not looked at global crisis such as the lack of food in Africa and the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. These events aren’t really taken serious since they aren’t occurring in the U.S., however I still think that we should pay attention to these things.

Africa is in one of the biggest crisis there is, lack of food. Did you know that thirty million Africans are starving as we speak? Think about the children there, everyday they might only have two small meals. What if that was you? Could you take it? One day with just eating perhaps one bowl of beans, that aren’t even fully cooked? I think that  most of us couldn’t take it. I know I couldn’t. There should be enough food to go around, but people are throwing away food everyday.  I f we put together all that food, do you know how much that would mean to a starving African kid? It would mean going to bed at night with a full belly not an empty one.

Next is the terrible and horrifying earthquake in Sichuan, China. This earthquake was rated the nineteenth deadlist earthquake of all time? It was an 8 on the seismograph. THhis terrifying event happened on May 12, 2008. This earthquake killed 69,227 people, 374,176 were injered, 18,222 people went missing , and 4.8 million people homeless. Destruction was incredible. Schools, companies, and thousands of apartments were destroyed. The goverment there plan to use 146.5 billion dollars to repair the damages.

As you see the U.S. is not the only one suffering. These people just like us. I f I were to endure these things I know I couldn’t. Imagine it, no computer, no cell phone and perhaps the deaths of family members. Not to mention the loss of your house. Unfortunatly the government isn’t doing anything about it so al we can do is pray that they make it through their pain and suffering.

Looking Free

Image is a very important thing in every day life. At work, formal events, and school. Lets face it, kids will never be free from pressure to look cool. Kids are always worrying about what others want them to look like.

First is the image they want. Whether it be a popular, gangster, or even a skater look, almost all kids want an “image” so kids can see their personality. Other reasons might be because they want to hang with certain people. Sadly some of the kids who don’t have a “look” are picked on kids who do, but are the same as them.

Second is their accessories. Most kids always want to get the coolest shoes ,shirts, etc.. They also want to get the most popular brand of clothing, such as Hollister, Element, or Vans. Jewelry is among  some of the most important accessories people have. One of the most worn jewelry is hooped earrings and diamond earrings(also  popular to the gangsters). Final I come down t one of the most needed, and the most desired thing, the cell phone. People now have many different types of phones, the iphone, razor, etc., however that doesn’t matter, the thing  is that all kids want a cell hone no matter what type.  I  remember getting my first phone, I had to think of many different reasons why I needed it, even though I had to it didn’t matter to me. I that was going through my mind was,”I want that phone.”

So it all comes down to this, body shape. I hear hurtful things said about kids all the time such as”fatty” or “that one bilemic girl/guy”. I think that, whether you are kidding around or not, that person feels pain. Think about it, do you really think they want to be like that? I’m one hundred percent sure they don’t. So please stop calling them that , it is just inappropriate.

So as you can tell through my essay that a lot of kids feel pressusre to look a certain way. Even if you don’t wear the coolest things and become a victim to this name calling “trap”.Just ignore it and live your life.
